A MAG box does not log in with a username and password. It loads a portal URL — a server address built into its settings — and the server recognises the box by its MAC address rather than by anything you type. This trips up people who are used to entering credentials the way every other app does, so this article walks through the two pieces separately: what a portal URL actually is, and how MAC-based activation works.

What a portal URL is

Every other player asks for three familiar details: username, password, server address. A MAG box asks for one thing only — a portal URL, which usually looks like a normal web address ending in something such as a "stalker_portal" or "portal.php" path. The box requests this address every time it starts, downloads its channel list and settings from it, and reloads it after any change on our side. There is no separate password field, because the portal does not identify you by a login; it identifies the box itself.

Why activation is tied to your MAC address

Every MAG box, like every network device, ships with a fixed MAC address: a hardware identifier written as six pairs of characters separated by colons. When we activate your subscription, we register that exact address against the portal. The consequence is that a MAG subscription is bound to one physical box rather than to credentials you can copy elsewhere — moving to a new box means sending us its MAC address, not reusing the old details. Finding your MAC address

Two places to look:

The sticker on the underside of the box, labelled "MAC", printed as six pairs of characters.
System Settings, then System Information, in the box's own menu, if the sticker is worn or missing.

Read it carefully. The digit zero and the letter O are the most common transcription error, and a single wrong character means the portal will simply refuse the box with no explanation on screen.

STB emulators

An STB emulator is an application, usually run on a Windows PC or an Android device, that behaves like a MAG box in software. It is useful for testing a portal without owning the physical hardware, or for continuing to watch while a box is being replaced. Inside the emulator you enter the same two pieces of information a real box would use: the portal URL, and a MAC address — either the one already registered to your subscription, or a new one the emulator generates, which then needs registering the same way a physical box does. Performance depends entirely on the device running it; an older PC or phone can struggle with a stream a dedicated box handles easily.

Common portal errors

"STB is blocked" or a similar message on screen. This means the box has reached the portal, but the MAC address it presented is not an active, registered one — often because a different box's address was sent by mistake, or the subscription has not been confirmed yet. Confirm the exact address with support before changing anything else.

Portal loads, then nothing happens, or an error appears. Usually a typo in the address itself. Check it character by character, including the trailing slash, since a missing or extra one is enough to fail silently.

Everything worked before, and now the screen is blank. Confirm the subscription is still active first. If it is, the portal address may have moved to a new server; support can confirm the current one.

The box will not get past its own logo. That is a firmware fault rather than a portal problem, and separate from anything covered here.
