IPTV on LG Smart TV

LG televisions run webOS and use the LG Content Store as their app store. General Smart TV setup steps are already in our Smart TV setup guide; this article focuses only on what is specific to LG: finding apps in the Content Store, the region setting, and MAC-based activation.

What you need before you start

Whichever app you install, the login screen offers two methods: Xtream Codes API and M3U Playlist. We recommend Xtream Codes API, since the movie and series archive and the TV guide only come with it; the difference is explained in Xtream Codes vs M3U. For Xtream Codes API you only need the username, password, and server URL we send you, and setup usually takes 3 to 5 minutes.

Installing an app from the Content Store

1. Press Home on the remote and open the LG Content Store.
2. Search for the app by name: IPTV Smarters Pro, Smart STB, or IBO Player.
3. Install and open it, then choose Xtream Codes API as the login type.
4. Enter your username, password, and server URL.
5. Check playback once the channel list loads.

If the app is not in the Content Store

The list of apps in the Content Store can depend on the TV's registered country. If you cannot find an app, check the region or country setting in the TV's menu; an incorrect setting can hide certain apps from the store. The exact location of this setting varies by model and webOS version, usually under General settings. On older webOS versions, one or more of these apps may not appear at all; try one of the others from the list.

Activation with a MAC address or device ID

Smart STB and IBO Player typically ask for the television's MAC address or a device ID during setup, and the licence binds to that device, so the same licence cannot log in on a second television. The address appears on the app's screen — send it to us and we handle the activation. You can also find the MAC address in the TV's network settings or under "About This TV"; the exact location depends on the webOS version. If you replace or factory-reset the television, the MAC address changes too, so send us the new one.

If you have more than one LG television

You can install the app on every LG television in your home and log in with the same username and password on each. The standard subscription allows one active connection at a time, so you can only watch on one of them at once; leaving a second television logged in and playing can interrupt the stream. Apps that require a MAC address need a separate activation for every television.

Common issues specific to LG

• Text entry with the remote is slow. Usernames and passwords are case-sensitive; double-check capitalisation and stray spaces after typing long details with the remote.
• An app disappears after a software update. webOS sometimes removes sideloaded or third-party apps during an update; reinstalling from the Content Store and logging in again with the same details resolves it.
• Smart STB or IBO Player ask to re-register the device. This happens if the MAC address changes, for example after a factory reset; send us the new address for reactivation.
• Empty channel list or frozen picture. This is usually a settings issue: see common IPTV problems and fixes for the full checklist.
• Sound plays but the picture is black. This can point to a decoder mismatch; switching the playback mode in the app's settings usually fixes it.
